HISTORY. This is a rare fine. The OSS was the forerunner to the CIA. This is the complete story of Major Cyrus Manierre, as told by his son. A graduate of West Point in 1942, while going through Airborne training with the 508th Airborne Infantry Regiment Maj Manierre was recruited by the OSS. After competing his training, he was deployed to Algiers and parachuted into southern France in May 1944 to work with the Free French Resistance ahead of the planned D-Day invasion of Normandy. Completed numerous sabotage missions against railroads and power plants. Captured by the Vichy French police and turned over to the Gestapo. He was tortured and faced certain execution until the twists of war put him in a Luftwaffe POW camp. Liberated by the Russian in May 1945.

This grouping comes with Maj. Manierre complete military history, expertly written on 182 pages by his son Carter. The medals are a cased Legion of Merit with “Cyrus E. Manierre” engraved on the reverse. A boxed POW Medal with “Cyrus E. Manierre” engraved on the reverse. And a cased Bronze Star with “Cyrus E. Manierre” engraved on the reverse. All three medals are in MINT condition. A truly incredible grouping of an American Hero. It doesn’t come any better than this!
