This 2nd model Luftwaffe really has exceptional mounts and shows little wear. The pommel is a beauty with oak leaves around the two swastikas and fine pebbling in the backgrounds. The matching crossguard features an outstanding Luftwaffe eagle. On the reverse all of the bluing remains in the panel area. The ferrule nicely matches the other mounts, with the deep darkening and the brightness in the high points exactly matches all the other hilt pieces. The grip is a beautiful orange color being with the smallest nick and a minute compression in the twisted wire. The choice scabbard really sets off this piece. This scabbard is straight as an arrow and has about 90% of the original gray finish. The bands are outstanding with high detailed slanted oak leaves running about their circumference. The throat is retained by a single screw in the reverse center. The blade has some graying and slight drag marks, but still shows some of the original cross grain. The hanger is very nice with only a few detractors. The extension spring in the belt hook does not fully close the hook, appears to have a period restitch and some loss of silvering, but a very solid set. A very nice looking example.
