HISTORY. The Winterhilfswerk or Winter Help Work (WHW) was a winter relief charity program started in 1931 in response to the depression. In 1933 Hitler made it an official Nazi program. The pins, badges and small play toys were handed out to those who donated and proudly wore letting everyone know they supported the Winter Relief Program that year.

Constructed of zinc & red paint. Reverse shows a horizontal pinback. Inscribed is: “Verbot Einer Fahrtrichtung”, which translates: “Prohibited direction of travel”. Winterhilfswerk des Deutschen Volkes (English: Winter Relief of the German People).
