Such a unique Imperial Naval Lion Head sword. The hilt is very interesting with a double hinged clamshell and the green & red glass eyes on the lion head. Very nice detailing all over. The grip appears to be a carved wooden base with a celluloid coating exterior and wrapped by brass twisted wire. There is a one inch crack on the celluloid (see picture). The blade is double etched with minor aging and a unique Carl Eickhorn makers mark (used only during the WW1 period) on the reverse racisso. The scabbard seems to have been repair and repainted, but shows very nicely considering the age of the sword. Very interesting addition to your edged weapon collection.
